Literacy Ideas Involved
Positive outcomes for Brainstorming inside categories:
- Brainstorming inside categories created many opportunities for discussion and sharing of ideas before writing
- Students found it easier to think of their own ideas inside this framework thus were less tempted to plagiarise
- The greater number of ideas made it easier for students to create more than one paragraph
- After brainstorming, both main points and details were then able to be identified
- This meant that paragraph structure and paragraph content was easier for students to organise and write
- Students saw they could apply Brainstorming Within Categories to other contexts such as friendly letters, business letters or letters of complaint - or even ideas for CVs and CV cover letters
- Student confidence to start writing increased just by knowing they have a tool like C-H-E-E-S-E to work with
- Other acronyms can be invented and used as frameworks for different writing genre
