The problem solving could be made easier by adding an extra column in the table so that the ratio 0.5 : 1 is expressed without the decimal. 0.5 : 1 is the same ratio as 1 : 2.

Essentially what we did to find the hypotenuse was divide 1 by cos 30°, (also known as sec 30°) then multiply by opposite side. So the length of the hypotenuse is sec 30° x length of opposite side.
