This tutorial is designed to help educators use the Group reports generated by the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Tool to compare their course literacy and numeracy demands with their learners’ current literacy and numeracy skills.

A key report generated by the Assessment Tool is a Group Assessment Summary report. These reports can be generated for any grouping of learners that you choose. It may well be your first opportunity to start Knowing Your Learners’ likely literacy and numeracy abilities.

The teaching process illustrated in the flow chart below is outlined and used in the 'Teaching adults to make sense of number to solve problems' and 'Teaching adults to read with understanding' Learning Progressions resources. A key component of embedded literacy and numeracy teaching is finding out about learners' strengths and weaknesses.

The earlier in the programme that you get the information about your learners’ strengths and weaknesses, the better you’ll be able to plan and respond to their literacy and numeracy needs.
