The Tertiary Education Commission has recently produced a DVD resource to accompany the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
The DVD entitled “Knowing your Learner, Engaging Māori Learners: an introductory resource for adult literacy and numeracy educators” is a teaching tool designed for educators working in the tertiary sector to help them better understand Mātauranga Māori and models of practice that may assist with engaging Māori learners.
Some of the holistic teaching and learning practices common to the Māori culture are profiled in this resource. Models such as Te Whare Tapa Whā Durie (1998), Tuakana Teina, Ako and Pōwhiri Poutama are key models that are explored.
The discussion in the DVD provides insights and ideas that educators, tutors and teams can use to inform and enhance their teaching programmes and practices.
Information and registration for a webinar based on this DVD is now available
